Vera Scarth Johnson

Vera Scarth Johnson was a renowned botanist, botanical illustrator and conservationist. Vera was born in Leeds and studied at art school. Vera wanted a career in horticulture but no employer would hire a female apprentice. She worked at various jobs to save enough money to study at the Herfordshire Institute of Argriculture. Vera went on to open her own market garden.

Artemisia Gentileschi was an Baroque painter born in 1595
Artemsia's work was highly accomplished and she produced paintings all over the world. Not only an an independent artist, she was the first woman to be a member of the Academy of the Arts of Drawing in 1616.
