INSIGHTs

Why?

The beauty, robustness, delicacy and vulnerability of nature is central to this work.

By exploring the gnarly, the scarred and the twisted, journeys of pushing into the light are revealed.

We live in a time of vast change to our natural habitat and by looking to nature and her amazing ability to adapt we illuminate our own journeys, connections and belonging.

Who ?

A visual artist who began their career as a painter.

After their favourite painting was stolen at their first exhibition they decided a career in television would be less hazardous.

They have spent their career editing, colouring and teaching with some video installation interactive art and film making thrown in.

The change came with the realisation that trees and our landscapes are changing in such dramatic ways and at an alarming rate. They were also running out of time to paint the things they love.

TREE STUDIES SOUTH QUEENSFERRY

South Queensferry's cycle path

THE PATH AND THE HAAR

On a cold, November day in 2020

The path has many old and new trees, lots of wildlife with a backdrop of the Forth Rail Bridge and the old Forth Road Bridge.

The tree branches not only frame the composition but draw the viewer into the narrative.

Is this figure approaching or leaving?

Go find the path yourself.

You too can stand and decide if the figure is arriving or leaving, or just to look at the trees.

THREE TREES: TWO ASH AND A SYCAMORE

This triangular composition. placement, scale, branch formation, cuts, scars and utter uniqueness

The Ash is one of the most recognisable trees in the UK.  It is estimated that up to two thirds of Ash trees could be lost to dieback, a fungas

Go find the tree yourself.

The middle Ash has an X on it so not sure how long they will be with us.
